WHAT IS INFERTILITY?

  • Infertility is a disease of the reproductive system defined by the failure to achieve a clinical pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse.

There are two kinds of infertility

  • Primary infertility
  • Secondary infertility
  • Globally, most infertile couples suffer from primary infertility. Primary infertility means that the couple has never conceived. Secondary infertility means that the couple has experienced pregnancy before and failed to conceive later.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS

Male:

  • Decrease in sexual desire
  • Difficulty in keeping an erection (erectile dysfunction)
  • Respiratory infections that reoccurs
  • Persistent fatigue or unexplained weight loss
  • Changes in urinary habits, such as increased frequency or difficulty urinating.
  • Testicle discomfort, enlargement, or lump development may occur.
  • Sexual function issues: inability to ejaculate or producing minimal fluid.

Female:

  • Pain during sex or dyspareunia
  • Endometriosis and fibroids
  • The inability to conceive is the basic sign of infertility.
  • Irregular cycles: too long (35+ days) or short (less than 21 days)
  • Missed periods and painful cramps.
  • Hormonal imbalance: unexplained weight gain, severe acne, cold extremities, and loss of sexual desire.
  • Facial hair growth and thinning on the head’s top are also linked to hormonal imbalance.

CAUSES

Infertility may occur due to male factors, female factors, or a combination of male and female factors or may be unexplained.

Male Causes

  • Problem in sperm generation or sperm transport.
  • The decrease in sperm count, or the number of sperm.
  • The shape of the sperm and sperm motility
  • Retrograde ejaculation
  • Varicocele, the swelling of the veins around the testicles.
  • Various other serious diseases.
  • Descended testicles in to scrotum.
  • Discharge issues &Tumors
  • A hormonal imbalance, such as low testosterone production
  • Deformities of tubules that transport sperm.

Female Causes:

  • Problems related to ovulation
  • Problems related to implantation
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
  • Endometriosis
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Premature ovarian failure
  • Scarring from a previous surgery
  • Ovulation disorders, which can be caused by (PCOS) or hormonal imbalances
