- Female infertility, a prevalent issue in reproductive-age women, is often attributed to Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD), the leading cause of infertility. In India, PCOS affects around 9.13% of adolescents. This condition involves multiple cysts on the ovaries, disrupting normal functions and leading to anovulation, menstrual irregularities, obesity, hirsutism, acne, and infertility without proper medical attention.
- Ayurveda identifies Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) or Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) as “Sthoulya” or “Artava Kshaya.” It views PCOD as a disorder impacting the reproductive and endocrine systems, attributed to an imbalance in the doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Specifically, excess Kapha and Pitta doshas, along with imbalances in meda dhatu (body fat) and rasa dhatu (plasma), contribute to PCOD development.
