How to Treat Fungal Acne on Face Naturally with Ayurveda?

Tuesday November 28, 2023

Fungal acne, technically known as Malassezia folliculitis, is an inflammation of the hair follicle caused by an overgrowth of yeast (Malassezia). While it looks similar to bacterial acne, its treatment approach is different, and it’s often resistant to traditional acne therapies.

In the world of Ayurveda, an ancient system of medicine originated in India, the key to treating any ailment lies in the balance of the three doshas – Vata (air and space), Pitta (fire and water), and Kapha (earth and water). When it comes to skin health, maintaining this balance is crucial. Here are some Ayurvedic remedies to help treat fungal acne:

1. Neem (Azadirachta indica)

Neem has been used in Ayurveda for centuries due to its powerful antimicrobial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. It can help inhibit the growth of the yeast causing fungal acne. You can make a neem paste by grinding fresh neem leaves and applying it directly to the affected area. Leave it on for about 15 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water.

2. Turmeric (Curcuma longa)

Turmeric is rich in curcumin, which has strong antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. You can make a turmeric paste by mixing turmeric powder with water or honey. Apply this paste on the acne and rinse it off after it dries.

3. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a powerful herb known for its healing and anti-inflammatory properties. It soothes irritated skin and promotes healing. Apply fresh aloe vera gel directly onto the affected area and leave it overnight. Rinse it off in the morning.

4. Honey and Cinnamon Mask

Honey has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties, while cinnamon is an antiseptic. Together, they can help kill the yeast causing fungal acne. Make a mask by mixing 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Apply the mask to the affected area and rinse off after 15 minutes.

5. Dietary Changes

Ayurveda also stresses the importance of diet in maintaining the balance of the doshas. Incorporate anti-inflammatory foods like leafy greens, berries, and turmeric into your diet. Limit sugar and refined carbohydrates, which can feed yeast and exacerbate fungal acne.

It’s essential to remember that while these Ayurvedic remedies can help alleviate fungal acne symptoms, they are not a replacement for professional medical advice. If your symptoms persist or worsen, consult with a dermatologist or an Ayurvedic doctor for a personalized treatment plan. Also, be sure to conduct a patch test before applying any new substance onto your skin to ensure it doesn’t cause an allergic reaction.

Finally, remember that skin health is closely linked with overall health. Regular exercise, adequate sleep, and stress management can all contribute to healthier, clearer skin. Practicing a holistic approach can help you tackle fungal acne more effectively.
